CALLIGRAMME
For this project, I used Adobe Illustrator to create a calligramme of a bakery. I drew a bakery on my sketchbook which I used to trace the outline of it in illustrator. I used the pen tool to make the shape of the bakery, the type tool to insert the lettering, and type on path tools to make the the calligramme. I used the rectangle tool to insert a pink color to my background. I used three different colors for my letters: pink, black, and white. Also, I used four types of fonts: Source Sans Variable, Lucida Grande, Arial Black, and Apple Chancery because I thought it would create a more unique look to my project. At first, I had a challenging time with this project because I had never used Adobe Illustrator before, so getting used to how everything worked was hard. However, after a couple of times working on the project, it started getting less tricky and easier to use.
The text I used to create the calligramme is of a letter I wrote to my future self, specifically 20 years from now. The illustration of the bakery I created expresses the creative visual of my letter. The reason I created a bakery is because I have a dream of opening a bakery in the coast of Italy with my sister. In my letter I talk about how I imagine when that dream really happens. I also wrote about how I see myself having many stamps on my passport from all my travels and my future fashion PR job working in dazzling events. Finally, I also talk about how I picture myself in 20 years happy and surrounded by family and love. I made the most important words of the letter in a bigger size, so it would be the main focus of the project.
Letter:
Dear Future Self,
I hope this letter finds you in a state of contentment and joy, surrounded by the beautiful experiences and accomplishments that life has offered you over the past two decades. As I sit down to write this letter, I am filled with excitement, anticipation, and a deep yearning for the incredible journey that lies ahead.
First and foremost, I hope you are happy. Happiness has always been the guiding star of our aspirations, and I trust that you have found it in abundance. Remember to enjoy the small joys of life, the laughter of loved ones, and the simple pleasures that make each day a gift.
Your dream of working as a fashion PR professional has been a constant beacon of inspiration. The fashion industry has been a passion of ours for as long as I can remember, and I believe in your ability to excel in this dynamic and creative field. I imagine you working with renowned designers, organizing dazzling events, and playing a pivotal role in shaping the fashion landscape.
Travel has been a lifelong dream, and I hope you've had the opportunity to explore the world extensively. The idea of discovering new cultures, cuisines, and landscapes has always excited us. May your passport be filled with stamps from exotic destinations, and may you have cherished memories from your global adventures.
Looking ahead to your golden years, I envision you and your sister realizing the dream of opening a bakery in Italy. Picture it: the aroma of freshly baked bread and pastries, the laughter of loyal customers, and the bond between two siblings who have shared a lifetime of memories. May your bakery be a testament to your perseverance and a place where age is just a number.
I hope that all the hard work and sacrifices of our youth have paid off. The long hours, the dedication, the moments when we had to forgo immediate pleasures for the promise of a brighter futureāI hope it was all worth it. Remember that those challenges shaped you, tested your resilience, and prepared you for the remarkable life you are living today.
But beyond these specific hopes and dreams, I want you to know that life is a journey filled with unexpected twists and turns. Embrace the challenges as opportunities for growth, and cherish every moment of triumph as a testament to your resilience and determination. Remember to nurture your relationships, for the bonds with family and friends are the true treasures of life.
With immense pride and love,
Maria.
